About Theresa Cangelosi
First of all I am terrible at writing biographies I'm much better at painting but here goes. I have been in the business world all my life, working or going to school, none of which had anything at all to do with art. It wasn't until I became very ill that I started to draw and paint. I remembered how much I enjoyed the Old Masters in my Humanities class in college and decided to try my hand at that style of painting. I went to the library and checked out every book on the Old Masters and how they painted and preceded to teach myself how they did it. After several years and many paintings later I have begun to perfect their style. I have branched off and am trying many different styles which you will see in my work but the one consistent thing that I do is always start off each painting the same way. The old masters used under paintings in almost all of their work and I have found that I can work out most of my issues just by creating an under painting before I start applying color. Of course that is with acrylics and oils not my pencil or pastel work. I mainly use oil and acrylic now because I enjoy the analytic process that goes along with creating under paintings plus my work has a finer quality to it. I try to paint a Santa every year just for fun at Christmas and some kind of Inspirational piece at Easter. I believe God gave me a second opportunity to inspire and influence people by my God given talent which appears especially in my religious pieces. He gave me the desire to photograph and study everything I see and then try to put it to canvas to share his vision of the world through my work. I am blessed to be able to do what I do.
Thank you to my friends and family that have inspired, conjoiled and pushed me to exhibit my work and finally submit my work to this forum.
I hope you enjoy my work.
